Zakat is a blessing, purification, growth, and righteousness. Technically, it is a specified amount from a known wealth for a known group. The generous Sharia has determined a considerable amount for zakat obligation, which varies with the types of wealth. Zakat's ruling is that it is the third pillar of Islam's five pillars, obligatory for every Muslim whose wealth reaches the nisab. Zakat was ordained because it materially and spiritually reforms society and purifies souls from miserliness and greed. Rejecting its obligatory nature constitutes a departure from Islam, necessitating repentance.
